The load everyone thought would stay down
They called him dead weight. Then they discovered who had been holding the roof up.

Placeholder artworkLumpy received his name from a foreman who considered naming workers an efficient substitute for learning them. The goblin had a broad, uneven silhouette, a habit of moving carefully, and very little interest in making explanations attractive. People mistook the pauses for stupidity because it saved them the effort of listening through one.
His Xenoverse origin begins in a quarry where the smallest humiliations accumulate into a working system. Lumpy is not secretly graceful or destined to become beautiful. He is useful, observant, and increasingly aware that being underestimated can become a tool if he stops spending every day trying to correct it.
It is astonishing how quickly a burden becomes a colleague when you put it down.

Chapter 01
The worker beneath the convenient name
The quarry crew assigned him heavy loads and blamed him when the schedule slipped. Lumpy learned the stone through weight, grain, and the sounds it made before separating. He could feel a bad block shift through a carrying frame before another worker saw the crack. The foreman called this nervousness and ordered him to move faster.
When Lumpy slowed, he was mocked. When he hurried and a block broke, the foreman cited the damage as proof that he needed closer supervision. It was a beautifully arranged system for ensuring the person giving orders remained right. Lumpy kept small chips from the failed blocks, marking where each had come from. Nobody noticed. His pockets were already assumed to contain uninteresting rubbish. That assumption gave him a private record more honest than the quarry’s official log, which attributed every difficulty to the same extremely convenient employee.

The contest with a prepared loser
At the seasonal feast, the foreman proposed a strength contest. Lumpy would carry a loaded frame against the quarry’s celebrated hauler. The winner received a purse. The loser cleaned the yard. Everyone understood which role had been selected for Lumpy, including the man who had quietly added extra weight to his frame.
Lumpy inspected both loads and said nothing. His opponent received cheers. He received suggestions about remaining upright. Halfway across the yard, he set his frame down and asked for the purse to be weighed against the promised amount. The crowd jeered until the hauler noticed that Lumpy’s stones came from a denser seam. The foreman called this irrelevant technical fuss. Lumpy handed over the chips from his pocket, each marked with a location. For the first time, his pauses created a silence someone else had to fill. The foreman proved less gifted at that task without being allowed to shout first.

The roof interrupts the argument
Before the dispute ended, a storage support cracked behind the feast tables. The crew had stacked new stone against it under orders to save space. Lumpy heard the shift and moved toward the frame while everyone else looked for the source of the noise.
He braced the load long enough for people to clear the tables. The celebrated hauler joined him. Together they held it while others fitted temporary supports. There was no sudden transformation into an effortless hero. Lumpy shook, slipped, and swore through the work. He needed help and asked for it plainly. That honesty made the rescue possible. Afterwards he sat in the dust while the foreman attempted to praise the team’s excellent training. The hauler asked who had ordered the unsafe stack. Lumpy supplied the date before the answer could become another inspiring generality. His little record had unexpectedly become the evening’s most valuable entertainment.

A job with different terms
The crew demanded changes: measured loads, checked supports, and wages recorded where workers could see them. The foreman resisted until several carriers put down their frames at once. Lumpy had not organized a grand revolt. He had simply made it harder for everyone to pretend the same mistakes were accidents.
He received the contest purse after its weight was corrected. He also received apologies, some awkward, some suspiciously polished. He accepted the practical ones. Being suddenly praised by people who had enjoyed the joke did not erase the years beneath it. Nor did he want to spend the rest of his life performing gratitude for the discovery that he had always been useful. When the crew offered a better name, he kept Lumpy. Changing it would not change who had chosen it or why. He preferred to alter what people heard when they said it.

The advantage of being overlooked
Lumpy’s place in the Toxic Goblin Xenoverse grows from strength joined to patient observation. He notices what a loud room ignores: a shifting load, an omitted detail, the moment an order transfers risk downward. His speech remains spare, making people nervous when they know he has been watching.
He is not endlessly forgiving. Sometimes he lets an arrogant companion finish an entire speech before placing one small contradictory object on the table. The delay is deliberate. Humiliation, he has learned, can be delivered without volume if the evidence is allowed to arrive last.
The old carrying frame hangs outside his shelter. Visitors assume it commemorates the rescue. Lumpy says it reminds him to put things down when they are not his to carry. Then he watches to see who understands the distinction. People who do tend to become good company. People who do not are usually already preparing to ask him for a favour.
