The Warpig became famous before it fought anything larger than a feeding trough. Its handlers painted symbols on its armour, invented accounts of earlier campaigns, and told prospective employers to observe the creature’s terrible stillness. The stillness generally followed a substantial meal.

Its Xenoverse origin begins with a contract to break a fortified market gate. The handlers expect a triumphant charge. The creature expects the reward associated with following a familiar smell. For several profitable weeks, nobody notices that these are different interpretations of the same training programme.

The enemy’s defences were impressive. The smell from the kitchen was decisive.

Chapter 01

The terror under the decorations

The Warpig was heavy, stubborn, and difficult to hurry unless food stood somewhere ahead. Its handlers used that appetite to teach short charges between barriers. They rewarded the broken barrier and described the result as martial instinct. The armour made the exercise look more expensive, which improved the story considerably.

Employers came to watch demonstrations. A ramshackle wall collapsed; the Warpig ate; the handlers bowed. Nobody tested a command against a competing smell. Nobody asked whether the creature understood enemies or merely obstacles between itself and supper. The distinction was commercially inconvenient. They hung a banner from its harness and sold the image of an unstoppable beast. The Warpig tolerated the banner until a corner brushed its nose, then ate part of it. The handlers called this a display of contempt for surrender. The interpretation received enthusiastic approval from a client whose understanding of animals came primarily from heraldry.

Chapter 02

The gate with an alternative entrance

The target market had a sturdy front gate and a busy kitchen beside the eastern lane. Its defenders, informed of the approaching creature, strengthened the gate and moved civilians away from the expected impact. A cook noticed the demonstration accounts mentioned feeding and proposed a less expensive precaution.

When the Warpig reached the approach, the handlers beat drums and pointed toward the gate. The creature lowered its head. For one magnificent instant, everything resembled the painting commissioned to commemorate the event in advance. Then warm air carried the smell of roasting roots from the eastern lane. The Warpig turned. The handlers shouted. It accelerated, dragging the banner, scattering the drummers, and heading directly toward the least defended and most appetizing part of the market. The front gate remained intact, possibly disappointed after all the attention spent preparing it for history.

Chapter 03

A conquest of the catering department

The creature struck a cart, overturned two empty tables, and stopped beside the kitchen yard. The cook had placed a heavy trough there. The Warpig began eating with an intensity its handlers had previously attributed to hatred. One handler attempted to pull the harness. The creature leaned slightly, introducing him to a pile of vegetable peelings.

The defenders watched from the roof. Their captain asked whether the invasion had dietary requirements. The employers arrived in time to see their expensive terror standing politely while a kitchen assistant refilled the trough. Its banner hung in the gravy. The handlers claimed the eastern movement was a deliberate tactical diversion. Nobody could explain what the diverted forces were supposed to be doing, since all available forces were presently attempting to retrieve a drum from beneath the creature’s foot. The Warpig remained unmoved by the argument. It had achieved the objective it understood, and the objective contained turnips.

Chapter 04

The armour comes off awkwardly

The cook offered to keep the creature fed while the handlers negotiated compensation for the damaged cart. Removing the armour revealed sores where the harness rubbed and several decorations attached with no purpose beyond making movement look threatening. The Warpig relaxed visibly as the weight came off.

This did not make it gentle. It snapped at anyone approaching the trough too quickly and knocked over a fence when startled. The creature required care, space, and attention to what its behaviour actually meant. It was neither the obedient weapon advertised by the handlers nor an innocent pet conveniently supplied by a moral lesson. The market’s stable keeper took responsibility for it under terms that included proper feeding and no ceremonial equipment. The handlers lost their contract. The employers requested a refund for several invented campaigns, an argument complicated by how eagerly they had helped invent them after viewing the original demonstration.

Chapter 05

A beast with its own destination

The Warpig’s later Xenoverse appearances carry that origin into every attempted deployment. It is powerful enough to make a passage through obstacles and independent enough to make the definition of passage a matter for negotiation. Characters who treat it as machinery tend to discover the cost of that assumption in public.

Its appetite remains a vulnerability and a personality. Food can guide it; discomfort can redirect it; a frightening noise can turn a carefully planned charge into a problem with no preferred side. Understanding those limits makes cooperation possible. Ignoring them produces better stories for spectators.

The market kept the damaged banner above the kitchen door. Its surviving words announced TOTAL VICTORY, with the missing section shaped roughly like the Warpig’s mouth. Visitors asked which battle it commemorated. The cook said it depended whether they meant the war or lunch. The creature, whenever present, supplied a clear vote by standing beneath the trough and waiting for somebody to become useful.
